"On October 3rd, 2002, United Catalysts will perform a ritual purification of the historic Hotel Broadlind in downtown Long Beach.
During this event, community members and friends of the East Village Arts District are invited to participate in "resetting" the hotel's energy.
Participants will perform a series of creative actions, designed to focus their energies and facilitate the psychological shift necessary for changes in perception. The ritual will feature the cast iron Purification Machine, designed specifically for this purpose. This free, public event is the final step of an extensive purification process used upon the hotel, which was documented and will be included in the upcoming show, Exhibit of Ritual Tools."

The Purification Project was the first large-scale interactive project attempted by us as United Catalysts. It began with a desire to address a particular need on the campus of California State University, Long Beach, and by the time of the Broadlind Purification, had occupied us for over a year.
Since that time, the Purification Machine has traveled extensively on its smokey business, and has opened many doors for us. We continue to hold it in warm regard; less for the opportunities it has provided us than for what it has taught us: about the construction of ritual, the power of transformation, about ourselves, and about our role as artists.
